A Successful Spring(s) Cleanup!

The May Springs cleanup was productive and well attended. The sun even showed up this time! Neighbors converged on the park and enjoyed a talk from Greg Griffith of the Bigelow House Museum, and Beth Mathews, an archeological consultant from a firm in Tumwater. The two spoke about the excavating being done on the Bigelow House property, and about how finding remnants of an outhouse (!) can tell you a lot about how people lived in previous centuries.

Representatives from the Olympia Parks department showed up with tools, gloves, coffee and snacks, and neighbors got down to business. Pathways were weeded, blackberry was cleared, overgrowth taken out, garbage was removed, waterways cleaned up, and more.

BNA treasurer Barb Laforge and member-at-large Debra Walter take their aggression out on some weeds.

Neighbors caught up or got to know each other between tasks.

Thanks to the Olympia parks department, and all who came to support this effort. Many folks came from outside the neighborhood to join the cleanup! The BNA is hoping to schedule a second cleanup in fall to keep maintenance more manageable moving forward. Have a great Summer!
